    Rotting wood

How should rotting wood feel to the touch? I've read on other forums that good rotting wood should be white to pale yellow and easily crumble. I found a log that meet those requirements but it also feels "spongy" and soft. Is that normal or should it be hard to the touch but still crumble?

How do people who sell surinam roaches sort through and count them?

    Introducing myself

I have been a member of this forum for a while now but never introduce myself. I have been keeping roaches and isopods for about a year now. I started keeping roaches as feeders but then I fell in love and now I keep them as pets. Anyway, just wanted to say it's great being part of this amazing...

Are these things suitable for an enclosure?

I have been trying to make my enclosures look more natural, so I was thinking of adding "decorations." Do you know if the following items could be problematic to roaches if ingested or just by being in the enclosure? Acorns Magnolia pods Mesquite pods Pecan pods Mexican buckeye pods Pine...

    Sterilizing leaves

Is it normal for dead dried leaves to "rehydrate" after being boiled for sterilization purposes? Mine went from dried and easily crushable to green and rubbery. Does this happen when you boil them and if so, around how long do you let them dry again before giving them to your roaches?

    Shinylarvitar97

Purchased some roaches from him and they all arrived healthy, not a single dead one. He knew about the heat in my state so he packaged the roaches with a cold pack, and everything was packed nicely. Communication was great! He answered all my questions promptly and gave me a lot of information...

    Surinam roaches

Do you even bother to offer cork bark to surinam roaches? They seem to be buried all the time, even the adults. Now I wonder if I really need any cork bark or wood for them. I have a nice piece of cork bark in their enclosure and if they don't really use it then I could just use it in another...

    Identifying wood?

When you go to a wooded area to collect bark/logs/branches, do you just collect from the ground or take it off the tree, or what do you do? If you pick it up from the ground how do you know is something suitable for roaches? I've read pine and other softwoods are not suitable, so I'm wondering...

Do roaches know when it's feeding time?

I keep my colonies in a closet in my balcony (I live in an apartment) and the lights are off except when I go to feed/mist/do maintenance. Every time I go my E. Posticus seem to start going crazy and move around a lot. I never notice before but they actually go to their feeding container every...

Hi guys, I was wondering how do you care for your Halloween hissers? Most importantly, I wanted to know how deep do you go with the substrate and whether you keep it dry or moist? Thanks

    How many roaches per bin?

In your experience, around how many do you think I can keep in their bin? I'm thinking of a colony with adults and mixed size nymphs. These are my current colonies. Eublaberus posticus in 56 qt = 14 gallons Ellipthorina javanica in 32 qt = 8 gallons Pycnoselus surinamensis in 20 qt = 5 gal...
