For those of you interested in my rearing projects with various types of Vespids, you may want to dig through my youtube channel a little. These videos show the jist of it
Basic Paper wasp cage setup:
I photographed some roaches today/last night, as well as their new cage design!
This is my big boy
A pennsylvanica nymph with 2 orange nymphs (most likely virginica)
A pennsylvanica nymph with the unknown female from my spare room
Food dish after dark
Fake plants and more chances...
I put a few seeds (mainly wheat from my cockatiel food) into my roach enclosure to add to the diversity of possible food items for them. The roaches of course don't eat the plants themselves, but last night I looked and saw a few of them with their heads burrowed down into the roots of the...
Last week I found a dead roach in the middle of the floor of my spare room upstairs. It looked like a Parcoblatta, so I just said "Gee I wonder where that came from" and moved on. Today I moved some boxes around up there while looking for something, and there was a live one in the crack of the...
I am always dieing to know what my roaches do when the lights go out. On nights when everyone goes to bed and I am the only one up, I turn off all the lights and then peek on the roaches with a flashlight, but they always scurry because that disturbs them. They definitely all come out when the...
I added a bit of 100% whey protien in my roaches food dish today. Think it will make them giants? maybe they won't even eat it at all... Interesting little experiment though
Is this a bad idea? I found a cool looking camel cricket today and would like to put it in with my roaches, but I don't know if it will be predatory or not.
So what I originally just blew off as mold that was covering the walls of my roach cage, actually turns out to be thousands of very tiny mites!!! What do I do? I also found out that the substrate is alive with the mites too. The roaches seem ok but what about me? Are they harmful to humans...
Some new photos of them. There is still one adult female left (wow, she is living a long time!) and maybe around 100 nymphs or so. I can never get an accurate count
I sure hope I can keep the colony going while at college!
So I left my cricket food bag in the corner of the room purposely so there would be no where for the creature to run when it came to eat. I found this guy chewing into the plastic bag
Is it the smokey brown roach? Too bad my brother had to tell my rents about it and now they are going to make...
Hi all
Am at a hotel where I have a cage of crickets, and a bag of fishflakes / oatmeal to feed them. I have the feed in a small plastic baggy, and today I picked it up and it started spilling out_ there were little tiny chew holes in it!
It has to be either roaches (I have seen the occasional...
A friend in Georgia captured these last night in her chicken pen. The photo is not great, but could they be Parcoblatta of sorts? She says they are large, maybe around an inch
How do you guys keep your colonies watered when you go on vacation? I can't really take mine with me for the 10 days I will be gone, and I don't think they will survive without me there to water them. They are the Parcoblatta that I have been raising by the way. I've worked too hard at this to...
I found some tiny nymphs in my P. pennsylvanica cage today! I thought it was almost over, because the male and one of the females died already. Leaving just a single old female in the cage. But now there are somewhere around a dozen little nymphs! :)
