    How Much Dry Food?

This is more out of curiosity than anything, but when you provide your roaches with dry food (oats, protein, etc.), do you give them enough to be eaten within a couple days or do you give them a ton and let them eat it over time? I know that a ton isn't an option with roaches that need a higher...

    FOOD WARNING: Arugula

Someone had been feeding the roaches in the insectary arugula without me knowing and this has caused a sizable die-off in a couple of species, including: R. cf. capelloi E. floridana And I suspect it temporarily stunted/halted breeding in: L. verrucosa G. portentosa I guess this has been...

    Experimenting with Fruits and Vegetables

I've been experimenting with various fruits and vegetables in my roach colonies and the colonies at my university's insectary and these are at least a few of the results. Of course changes over time occur since I get new roaches every now and then or don't feed certain species because I run out...

Where to get dead exotic roaches

Anyone have any recommendations of places to get dead exotic roaches? Not as much fun as having them alive of course, but I'm working on building a decent sized collection. It may give me the chance to get species that aren't even available in the hobby, which could certainly be interesting.

    Roaches of Illinois

Anyone know what species to expect in Illinois? I've gone through Bug Guide, but I feel like there have to be a few more non-"pest" species you can find here. Here's what I have so far: Supella longipalpa Blattella germanica Periplaneta americana Blatta orientalis Parcoblatta virginica...

    Cherry Tomatoes?

I was curious to people's thoughts on feeding roaches the occasion cherry tomato? I have a bunch of extra and I'd hate for them to go to waste. I've been reading that roaches don't seem to be huge fans of tomatoes and that the tomatoes mold really quickly, so they aren't really worth trying. If...

    Recommended Small Display Species

Been looking to set up a display centered around one of the smaller species of roaches (no Blaberus, hissers or A. tesselata). Does anyone have any recommendations on small roach species that still would be a nice display species? From what I've seen so far, my P. septentrionalis and various...

Thoughts on "The Complete Cockroach Breeding Manual"?

Came across this on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/The-Complete-Cockroach-Breeding-Manual/dp/0987306235/ref=pd_sim_sbs_14_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=51Uai65-hVL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR124%2C160_&refRID=0TPBR8NAPVJED8GT4W89 Anyone read it? Seems decent enough and I went over to their...

    Brown banded roach light sensitivity?

Out of curiosity, how do brown banded roaches react to light? There are tons in the insectary on campus and they could care less that the lights are on in the building or that there are people moving around. Is that normal or have they developed some sort of weird tolerance to this?

How long for Neostylopyga rhombifolia ooth to hatch?

My N. rhombifolia have been dropping plenty of ooths, but none have hatched yet. Anyone have a ballpark answer on how long it takes them to hatch? I'm also contemplating moving them into a new enclosure where it's easier to provide the dry upper layer and humid hide they need. They seem to be a...

    Favorite Roaches

Who has a favorite roach family/genus/species? Can be for any reason. Enjoyable pet, perfect feeder, good challenge to keep (or super easy), etc. Underrated species are also acceptable! If you can't just pick one, you can make a small list too ;)

    Plecoptera poeyi?

Does anyone know if Plecoptera poeyi has made it into the hobby or if anyone is working with this species? I know it's a very small ectobiid found in Florida (at least according to Bug Guide), but that's about it. http://bugguide.net/node/view/1071902/bgimage

    jpf111054

Positive! Did a trade with Pete a while and couldn't be happier! Communication was great, roaches were packed perfectly (even with chilly temps here), and the experience was overall extremely pleasant. Would absolutely recommend doing business with him! Thanks again, Pete!

I have an adult pair of Aeluropoda insignis that I would like to sell or trade. Looking to get $10 for the pair and can ship priority since the weather is pretty good for shipping now. Incubators?

Out of curiosity, what set ups do you all use to hatch ooths (assuming you don't leave them in the enclosure with the parents)? I'm guessing it varies depending on what species you are trying to work with, but any pics/info would be great! I'm asking because I have several T. petiveriana ooths...

    A. insignis Breeding Issue

I have a beautiful pair of A. insignis that I have been trying to successfully breed over the past few months, but haven't had any success.
