Consequences of aborted ooth?

One of my female hissers aborted an ootheca (no idea why) a couple days ago, and she's had a translucent, off-white blob hanging out of the back of her abdomen. It's squishy and liquid-filled, and she doesn't seem to have feeling from it. What is this? Is surgery needed, and will she be able to mate again?

I don't think there's anything you can do. It will probably live a long life but when females become damaged in that way there's very little chance of reproduction.

Oh, that's too bad. At least she'll live. I have another female or two who are gravid, so I'll still be getting babies. Do you have any idea why this happened?
