They can fly when so inclined....

Well, for the 6 or 7 years that I have been keeping them, I have never seen one take off yet. If yours can fly, tell me how you got them to do it, I would love to try it out! And I am not talking about gliding, like when they are dropped. I mean buzzing away like german cockroaches and green banana cockroaches (for example) can do.

I have had one of my males fly.

Once.

And it was only after I coaxed him to the end of my finger.

They definitely don't fly readily, and when they do it's quite clumsy.

 
I guess all of mine have just been fat and lazy. Ive always openly handled them and I leave the lid of their enclosure open, sometimes for long periods with no missing roaches (something I better stop doing). Used to take them to schools (when I had my little bug show business before I moved) and never had an escape. I love how, after years of keeping an animal, its still possible to learn more about them!
