Odd Larval Swarm

It rained a lot today and I found these odd masses of what appear to be various fly larvae crawling around my sidewalk.

Anyone got ID's on them?

those are so cool!!!....if you have fish you should try them out...i like how they move as a mass

According to Whatsthatbug.com these are a type of Sciarid fly larva. The mass movements seem to be a rather regular thing.

Those are beautiful and amazing! I'd love to see something like this, anyone know anything more about them? What do they eat? I know many fungus gnat larvae are carnivorous.

Fascinating. It reminds me of the way driver ants make living bridges across things, or those chains of migrating lobsters marching across the ocean floor. Its a shame maggots are so repulsive to look at.
