Periplaneta australasiae Enclosure size, substrate, diet, etc.

Hello All,

I am new to the hobby, and am hoping to kick off with some Periplaneta australasiae. I am hoping that they will give me the opportunity to get used to the difficulties and challenges of the hobby before I move on to other, more challenging species.

I already have an adult female, and a nymph that are awaiting their enclosure. But, there's not much information out there, so if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. What is their optimum enclosure size, diet, substrate, and moisture level. What kind of furnishings does their enclosure require? Also, what is the optimum male:female ratio? And, optimum breeding requirements.

Thank you in advance for the assistance, and I am planning to make a success of this, So if anyone would like some of these roaches, send me an e-mail. I'm sure that I will have hundreds in a month or so :-p.

P. australasiae are not picky at all about their set-up. Make sure the container is secure, give them wood or egg cartons to lay their oothecae on, feed them whatever you have, and they will do fine. Don't worry about male to female ratio; for these guys it really doesn't matter.

 
Thank you, I already see that you are right. My female laid her first ootheca tonight. I'm actually quite excited. Photos will follow soon.

 
Now, that won't be a problem. Everybody will think that some more cockroaches made their way into their houses. P. australasiae are our common pet roaches in Richards Bay :-D
