why keep a large colony?

Im just curious as to what the appeal is to keeping a huge colony? like hundreds of indivdual roaches. Just curious as to the various reasons.

 
Some people keep them for feeders for reptiles, others keep them as pets, though those most likely do not keep hundreds of individuals. I got into them as feeders. I sell some feeders to local people, but recently got into keeping some of the nicer looking, non-invasive species.

 
Most of my supercolonies are feeders, others I just like the species and find them interesting to observe in large numbers, but mostly for food. I have a lot of things to feed.
