Carrots have a better nutritional value for roaches or people. I happen to like the jicama added to salads and whatnot, but the price for me is more expensive than carrots, so for less nutritional value I see no point.

Roaches will go for what they want if there's a wide selection available. Maybe there's a different nutrient in that stuff that carrots don't have, and the roaches needed it. Who knows? Maybe it smells better to them.

All I do know is I was shocked when my orange head colony passed up fruits for canned "Winter bamboo root."

From wikipedia:

"Jícama is composed of 86-90% water.

Its sweet flavor comes from the oligofructose inulin (also called fructo-oligosaccharide).

Jicama is high in vitamins C, A and B, along with calcium and phosphorus"

So it has everything a roach needs (water, fructoses, calcium and phosphorus).
