G. laevigata same as G. portentosa?

Keith

Megaloblatta
I saw a website selling hissing roaches as g laevigata, but they look like ordinary g portentosa and all internet searches for g laevigata come up with few results. Is this an obsolete name used, or a different roach species rarely sold?

The correct scientific name is Elliptorhina laevigata

You may want to consider not buying roaches from this dealer :)

Then scroll down
This is from a supposedly "reputable" Science company that ships live animals to Schools and Colleges, but if they can't even get the name right yes I question how good they are. The scientific name was in the instructions, however here is the item page, these are your typical hissers not v horns. http://www.carolina.com/roaches/madagascar-hissing-roach/FAM_143666.pr?catId=10601&mCat=10476&sCat=10568&ssCat=&question=

I don't see where it says G. laevigata anywhere on the website. You could always contact the company to see if it is a hybrid or not.
