DIY Modified Sterilite Gasket Tubs from Target

@CodeWilster Can you list links to the various drill components on amazon? I suck at "tool know how" and dont want to spend money on the wrong things. By the way its been a LONG time since your epic teaser. :P

Thanks.

Home Depot is probably easiest for most. They're with all of the other drills and parts. You could ask an employee for help, just need a hole saw and bit/mandrill for any regular power drill. Here's a link to a cheap one I found on Amazon with both components. Just be sure to get the right vent size.

Video is in the making but has been put on hold. It will come around someday :)

Although much smaller than what you are using, I have discover mesh screen refills made for the vapor nicotine things. They are round, about the size of a nickel, very fine mesh size and cost a dollar for 5 at the peddlers mall. I haven’t used any yet but I bet they would prove useful for a lot of species.

I just finished setting up my rack and bins. Will be adding vents to mine soon. On checking this thread again, I realize we ended up with the same plastic tubs! They are the only tubs that have a really good fit for my rack.

Any thoughts (from anyone) on top vs front mounted vents? How much space should I have between one lid and the next (wire) shelf to keep good ventilation?

Those tubs are the best! been using them for years and have never had any issue or an escapee. They are the only tubs I recommend because you do not need a barrier layer.

With wire racks like that, enough space to slide each bin straight in and out of the rack should be enough space for ventilation. I prefer vents mounted on the lid versus the sides but that is just my personal preference. I think the main issue would be if you did not have a shelving unit and needed to stack the bins on one another, then front/side mounted vents would be the better of the two. Plus, lid-mounted vents will allow deeper substrate for some species.

Yeah, I really like them. I love having a rack of consistent bins! Do you have hissers or orange heads in these bins? Actually, CodeWilster, I think I saw you sell these species, do you keep them in the gasket bins too? Any recommendations for how many vents for these species? They are both pretty low maintenance, but now that I'm setting everything up, I have this odd desire for everything to be perfect. I'm sure that doesn't happen to anyone else. (sarcasm)

Looking at other setups, and ptanner's suggestions, I think I will go with the top mounted vents. Seems much easier to install too.

Beautiful job on that gasket tub. Unfortunately we don't have any target stores where I live. I did manage to order one from Walmart, although they are expensive if you buy them there. I presently have five Hissers and am waiting for some more to arrive in the mail. Anyway goodbye Vaseline! . I have always found it a pain to deal with. Good luck to all you roach people out there.
