I went herping today and while rustling through some leaves, I found roaches!

The adults are an amber color and about 1/3" long. No pics at the moment; I only had time to catch about 5, all juveniles and one freshly molted adult.

Pics?

...and, what state are they collected in ??

They just sound like Parcoblatta sp. to me (not that it's a bad thing). Depending on the state, they might also be Blatta Lateralis. For loads of wild roaches, hold a large net under a dead tree and peel off bark.

Michigan, under what I believe are rotting cottonwood leaves. They're WAY to fast to photograph. x.x

However, the nymphs are a light olive-yellow color with small streaks of black on their abdomen.
