    Mites on B. boliviensis!

A friend I sold a few B. boliviensis to said he noticed some mites on the wings of adults and on the stubs of nymphs. I didn't look too much into it. Now, my colony is reproducing but many adults are not molting out properly and the nymphs have a rough, bumpy appearance and are often skinny. I...

    Therea oothecae hatch time

Just thought I'd take a note on how long it took my Therea sp. ooths to hatch. I noticed my first Therea sp. "granjeani" ootheca on August 10th, and while checking the colony today I noticed a multitude of itsy bitsy babies that weren't there before. This means it took the ooth(s) a minimum of...

    The effects of overcrowding

About 3 months ago I started having adult die offs in my A. tesselata colony. I added more hiding places in the enclosures to compensate for the space that was slowly dwindling. Eventually I started finding dead nymphs and tons of them all crinkly and bumpy. I burned off about 3/5's of the...

    Agh! That bloody little thief!

I looked in on my lobster roaches today to find a female giving birth. Right at her abdomen, having a nice snack, was a subadult nymph! Of course I swatted him off, by my question is, was he feeding on the newborns or the afterbirth produced by the female? There were easily 5 or 6 freshly molted...
