    Do Halloween hissers hiss?

I have a male and is never heard him hiss! I've handled him a few times and he's never hissed, I bought him from someone as an adult and he was rarely handled so its not because of that.

    G. laevigata same as G. portentosa?

I saw a website selling hissing roaches as g laevigata, but they look like ordinary g portentosa and all internet searches for g laevigata come up with few results. Is this an obsolete name used, or a different roach species rarely sold?

    Just saw unique behavior

2 male dubia doing mating display and managed to successfully lock together and were stuck for 5 minutes until they were able to separate. I didn't think it was possible, now we know it is.

The title probably drew you here lol, let's keep it clean ha ha! I have an all male tank of dubia and hissers, no females. Every so often every male in the tank simultaneously will become hyper and start running around, jumping, and going after one another. This is usually what happens when...

    How does leg regeneration work?

Have a Hisser that was missing a back leg, had a small nub only. It shed and now has a new, almost full length leg. How does a new, longer leg develop inside what was a tiny stub, it makes no sense but its amazing!

Hissing cockroach horns growing without shedding

I have an older nymph that had been denied proper nutrition for prolonged time and near starvation, it's getting great care now and nutrition. Its a male, and it had no horn bumps young males have, but over the weeks even though its fat and ready to shed soon, it suddenly has horn bumps and...

    Mixed tank species and behavior

I have a tank of dubia and hissers, both raised together since nymphs. The hissers sometimes try to ram the dubia and if they got really angry might injure a dubia. But, my dubia when this happens put head down and ram against the Hisser and then climb on their back and try to bite, of course...

Some of my oldest dubia I raised have started to die of old age, these are males that have mated multiple times and fought. I looked it up and they are around 2 years 5 months which is excellent life for a male dubia!

    Another amazing roach escapee survives

Hissing cockroaches really are incredible escape artists! I had trouble with first instar nymphs escaping in my room, but as they got larger none escaped. So in my room I'm organizing papers on my desk when suddenly I see this large black roach run away and I quickly grab it. Its a young...

Bloated Hisser leaking fluids (with photos)

So this one Male (presumably adult) Hisser I raised last shed a month and a half ago with its siblings. It has been acting normal and eating. Slowly the poor thing has gotten more bloated that at first I thought it was going to shed again, but the length of time I think leads me to believe its...

Looking for injured/deformed/runt hisser Nymph (Aeluropoda insignis - Flat Horn) to buy

I like to buy cockroaches that normally would be culled from a colony, and raise them and keep them as pets, kind of like helping the underdog. I am looking to buy one Male Flat Horn hisser Nymph (smaller the better but it must be guaranteed Male) that you normally would cull, it could be...
