    Discussion thread - What's your favorite genera/species?

Oh gosh, there are so many that I find fascinating. I only currently keep 3 - Dubia, B. lateralis and P. nigra so my actual knowledge is limited. I do have an order from @Hisserdude placed so I'll be adding another species (plus a color variant) I really love the look of Domino and Question...

Curious about beetle availability for sale

I'll have to check out discord, I've never really used it much. And I'll definitely keep watch for the auctions, that would be fun to at least watch :D

Curious about beetle availability for sale

Is either the Golden Scarab Beetle or Golden Tortoise Beetle ever available for sale? I've done some searching but so far nothing is coming up except dead specimens. :/ Thankfully there are other species that I'm interested in keeping, just out of stock at this time - so if they're never...

Oh my gosh, that lil one is so darn cute! I wish you all the luck in the world with raising them. Looking forward to pictures of them during their growth! :D *edit* Holy smokes, I just looked up to see what the adults look like and they are gorgeous!

My experiences feeding, a continuing journey!

Well, on Sunday I put a small piece of zucchini in with my two colonies. My dubia devoured it, there is no trace left of it 🥰 My P. nigra, however didn't touch it and now it's molded over. I didn't expect it to mold THAT fast, it's crazy! I scooped out the zucchini and any soil that was...

    finding a good lid

Just read this - I never thought about the foam potentially getting chewed on. I'm really glad you mentioned it, I will keep a close watch on mine now and if it shows signs get a different container before it really becomes an issue. So far, the only roaches I keep that are noted as being...

    leaf litter collecting

It actually helps break them down a bit more and easier to digest. Roaches also tend to be detrivores, so they'll appreciate it too. Also, if it gets a little "slimy" it's ok - its a biofilm and has good sources of bacteria. My isopods go bonkers for it. :) I have some new stuff soaking now...

I had a feeling that it looked like it, but couldn't tell for sure, very good news. :)

    strange hissing cockroach situation

That's so sad to watch, the poor thing. It reminds me of DKS in tarantulas, and there's a lot of controversy over what causes it. I have no idea if roaches ever get the same thing, it just looks a lot like it. The only thing I can think *might* be a cause is possibly the wood? If its pine...

    leaf litter collecting

Main thing is to collect from where you know that no kind of pesticide has been used, and is a decent way from traffic to avoid as much pollutants as possible. If you're not sure, I'd recommend buying online. I freeze any leaves I collect for a minimum of 3 days, often up to a week. Then I...

    YouTube video got me jonesing

Right?? I think I'm obsessed with anything green in inverts, I swear. The same YouTuber has a video on animals with gold coloration, and there is a gold beetle I am obsessed over! I need to watch again, I don't remember the name of it.

    Panchlora nivea as feeders

*melts over the tarantula toe beans* I'm having a bit of a senior moment - is that a C. versicolor on the bottom pics? I had wondered about the nymphs of these particular roaches for feeder potential. I hate to say it, but it does cross my mind for any potential roach I get. >.< Good to see...
