Reccomendation: do not keep millipedes with roaches

For years now I have had a giant Black African millipede. That is no longer the case due to a mistake on my part. I keep dubia, which are not as cannibalistic as Eublaberus or Blaberus in my experience. I've also been keeping superworms with them without any discernible issue. I decided to...

    Wet dog food/E.distanti

I know dry dog food is pretty standard for roaches. Mine have never gone for it much. I buy wet dog food, specifically Merrick, for my blue tongue skink..and I tried it for my Eublaberus distanti and they seemed to love it. Does anyone know of any reason not to use this more often for my...

Blaberus boliviensis/dying adults & malformed wings

Heyo, it's been awhile since I've been on. Anyway, my trust colony of Blaberus boliviensis seems to be having some issues. Specifically, I am having more malformed wings and more issues with adults dying quickly. Either they literally die as they are molting, or they die shortly after. The...

Looking for an opaque, smooth-walled plastic tub, with a gasket

Howdy everyone, I'm replacing the aquariums I have my colonies in with plastic tubs. I have 2" roundvents to provide ventilation, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for tubs that are opaque, smooth walled, and preferably have a gasketed lid? I'm having a hard time finding such a...

Does anyone actually have *pure* B.discoidalis?

Long story short, I'm switching feeder stock, and B.dubia doesn't really do it for me. Anyone know of someone who has *pure* B.discoidalis?

    Multi-species communal Colonies.

I'm sure this topic has been brought up before, but it's been awhile and I figured it'd be worth bringing up new. I've tested a few different communal colonies. Specifically: 1.) B.giganteus/H.tenebricosa: Successful in terms of production, however, eventually overcrowding with the giganteus...

Substrate from my B.giganteus/H.tenebricosa communal colony: shipping only!

Basically, the roach tank is getting pretty stinky again, and I need to get rid of the old substrate which is full of frass and miscellaneous dead roach parts like legs etc. BUT that substrate also has tinier nymphs in it that I don't feel like separating out! Hence, I'll ship you my old...

Comparison of Eublaberus species as feeders.

I've been using E.distanti as feeders, but I kinda don't like how armored the nymphs seem to be, and how much they burrow. Would E.posticus or ivory maybe be a better fit?

    What Blaberus hybrids exist?

I know Aaron Pauling sells some manner of hybrids, but they aren't labelled as far as what's in the cross IIRC. Blaberus.com used to sell a kind of hybrid as well--fusca x cranifer IIRC,but now that he doesn't selll anymore I can't check the site to see. I know Greg's Exotics used to as well, I...

    Fox in the henhouse

So, something I've been considering "experimenting with," is a concept I like to call "fox in the henhouse." Many of us use roaches as feeders for invertebrates like scorpions, tarantulas, and so on. I wonder--if one of us were to introduce a predatory invert into a roach colony, would it...

Minimum tank size needed to keep a colony going

Specifically, the species I'm talking about are B.giganteus and H.tenebricosa. The tank I've been keeping them in is, well..has some gaps and I'd like to replace it. I also need to get rid of the old substrate and do a pretty deep clean of my colony. I figured, as long as I'm doing that, I...

    Average death rate for B.giganteus?

I started my B.giganteus colony from two individuals summer of 2010. I had nymps within a few months, starting in a 10 gallon aquarium, and then I moved them up to a 40gallon aquarium with some G.portentosa, and H.tenebrisoca. I've been experiencing periodic die-offs, usually a handful adults...

I advise NOT giving roaches leftover vegetables if they were cooked in oil.

I made roasted redskin potatos and gave the roaches the leftovers. I would not advice doing this--the olive oil axphysiated several nymphs.

So this is an issue with MY health, but it seemed like the best place.

Nothing serious, so far, but I've developed an allergy to dubia, or possibly their frass, or a bacteria on their skin. Just taking them out to feed my tarantulas results in hives. I keep forgetting to wear gloves, which would probably help, but I've been debating changing over to discoids me...

Marty Made Enclosure, 40 gal tall?

I'm thinking about getting the S40H tank by MartyMade, for my multi-species roach colony. I've got G.portentosa, B.giganteus, H.tenebricosa, and hope to have some E.orini (Or was it D.orini?) as well. I have 2 questions: 1.) This is a very tall tank. I intend to add cork bark tubes and slabs...

G.portentosa and B.giganteus in the same tank?

Is this a good idea? A terrible idea?
