    Blaberus giganteus cannibalism

My Blaberus giganteus recently started some really bad cannibalising all the newly molted individuals. I feed them mostly parrot pallets, with some cat pallets every few days, and occasionally fresh veggies and fruits left over from my kitchen. Could it be over crowded or the weather is getting...

    Domino roach male:female ratio

About a year ago, a seller gave me a few Dominos as gift when i was purchasing other stuffs from him. Those quickly died but left me quite a few egg capsules. I left them alone for many months until I saw some movements in the substrate, and I started feeding them. Surprisingly (to me), I ended...

    Parrot pallets anyone?

I am thinking to use parrot pallets to feed my roaches instead of fresh fruits and veggies. Brand like Zupreem have different kind of pallets, but fruit mix, and veggie mix seems suitable. I can get a 3.5 lb bag for US$15, so it would work out much much cheaper than fresh fruits and veggies.

    Winter survival and breeding

I have had my first batch of adult Pepper Roaches and Giant Cave Roaches at last december, during the winter (5C - 15C outside, 10C - 25C inside) half of the pepper roaches died off, and breeding was horribly slow, I only discovered around 10 nymphs last check. But the Giant Cave Roaches were...

    Rhino roach food

Well, the story is like that, I broke my left ankle on 1/1 in a motorbike race, spent 12 days in hospital and have been resting home since then. I asked my brother and dad to take care of my pets while I was in hospital, but that's only so much they would do, and incidentally, i didn't have...

    Impressions about Rhino Roach

I guess it is because of their slow breeding, making them one of the most expensive pet roaches around, hence an impression of difficult to keep. After keeping them for 4 months, I have to say something to equalize for them. They must be the cleanest and one of the most hardy species I have...

    Peppered roach dying

When I first got them, they molted fine, never had a single issue. But recently, the remaining nymphs started their final molt, but the mortality rate is quite high, I would say around 50%, and among 35 nymphs I have had, maybe 30% of them died after final molt. At first, I thought it was lack...

    Some kind of burrowing roach?

Since I ran out of medium size dubia for my geckos, so I went out to bird shop for some. I didn't check the bag carefully (stupid me), but i didn't know they have other kind of roaches for sell, and look through the bag they do look like roachy enough for me... They are some kind of burrowing...

    Elliptorhina chopardi colony slowed down

I acquired this colony a few months ago as babies and they were happily eating, running around and almost curious back then. Recently, most of them had matured, and the whole colony slowed down dramatically, to a point that they barely move, really shy, and not eating much at all compare to...

Elliptorhina chopardi eating another roach's shed exoskeleton

Just saw a Elliptorhina chopardi molting, then after he's somewhat harden up enough to move around, he started eating an shed exoskeleton left there by another roach a few days ago. I read somewhere they would only eat their own shell, seems that although they're just programmed to eat a shed...

    Rhino roaches dehydration

Ever after I switch from 3" substrate to 1/2" sand with a thick layer of plant litter on top. My rhino roaches seem drink a lot water! Even when the sand is still quite damped, and some spots where they dug trenches are actually almost flooded, I have noticed them run for water droplets on the...

    Hisser molting problem

I have a hisser which is currently molting. He managed to get out of most of his old shell, but while the back of his shell is completely off him, I noticed most of his legs are still covered with old shell. The old shell of his back has completely broken off, so I don't see how his legs and...

    Help ID this wood bark

I went to the local gardening street trying to find some bark mulch that I can use as part of bedding. It seems none of them know what they're selling, they just know it is "bark" that they imported somewhere. So i bought a few nuggets hoping you guys can help me id them before I buy those bark...

    Nymphs dying normal?

Every week or so, I would find a dead nymph, usually very soft to touch but completely darken, so I am not sure whether they were just molted or not. From my experience rearing other animals, very small things (especially very young) tend to die off randomly, there is nothing you can do about...

    Lactuca sativa var. asparagina

Even since I started feeding them Lactuca sativa var. asparagina (Chinese Lettuce) , look very much like Romaine Lettuce, but softer, I noticed all the nymphs I have, orange head, discord, and a few species of hissers, feed primarily on it. They basically ignore 99% all other food and just eat...

Elliptorhina chopardi blinded and lost grip

I set up a show tank for Elliptorhina chopardi about 2 weeks ago, put 7 adult Elliptorhina chopardi in there, and they were perfectly fine at the beginning, climbing glasses, running around until a safe cover is found, eat, and able to flip back by themselves if upside down. But after a few...

    Hissing behaviour of different species?

Sorry, its me again with all these questions. This time is about hissing, I have a few species of hissers, and they kind of have different hissing behaviour. I'll list them out in order of loudness, and how often they do it. 1. Tiger Strip Hisser: They hiss a lot, and loud. Whenever you touch...
