A plea to my fellow animal-lovers...

Second Instar
I have recently received a frilled dragon as a rescue.

She was left in a rental house, and was there for 1-2 weeks with no food (although, apparently had access to some water). She is in okay shape, but very skinny. I will have some food on the way from Zephyr (an awesome roach breeder!) and some worms coming from Mulberry Farms, but she will be needing more like 1-2 dozen insects per DAY until she is of an appropriate size again.

I'm looking for anyone that has a large amount of roaches, silkworms, hornworms or even superworms that they can part with fairly inexpensively. If you're needing to thin out a colony, this would be an awesome reason to do it.

Here's a picture of the "as of yet unnamed" girl!

As you can see, she is not happy and it is going to take some time to get her used to us & more responsive...but she could've been in so much worse shape. My friend, who has been rescuing animals for awhile now, also has a Uromastyx that some owner basically left to starve to death & then asked her to take it when she went to his house to buy snakes. There were many tears shed over that animal, thinking that she would die, for the following weeks. She was basically nothing but skin stretched over bones. (She is much happier & healthier now in my friend's care.)

People like this make me so mad that I can't see straight and I don't understand why someone would just LEAVE such a beautiful & sweet animal as this frilled dragon (or neglect the Uromastyx, for that matter!)

Anywho, I should stop while I'm ahead, but please message me if you have anything that you can offer to help me get this frilled dragon girl back up to snuff. She will be our pet, so please don't ask if she is for sale/adoption!

THANKS SO MUCH, GUYS!

:D

When you think about what people can do to another human being, you wouldn't be so surprised with what we're capable of to animals, much worse... very sad but also very true.

On the other hand, if someone can love cockroaches, he/she simply can't be a bad person. :P

Good job for rescuing her. Yes she is skinny. If only I'm in the US, I could have provided many roaches for her. Good luck to both of you!

i should be able to give you some of my discoidalis (say 200 or so mixed nymphs) but the colony at my work is growing a little out of control so if you are willing to wait a week i should be able to get more for you. just PM me if you are interested.

When I rehab reptiles like that, I feed them superworms if they will eat on thier own as they will gain the weight fastest that way. Also, I force feed Gerber Turkey baby food mixed with grape Gatorade and a tiny dash of calcium powder/vitamins, through a 5cc syringe (no needle, obviously).

I don't think she is in bad enough shape to warrant that type of treatment (force-feeding). These guys stress a little more easily than some reptiles and she has already had to change hands 3 times in less than a month, so I don't want to subject her to anything more. I was actually very surprised to see her running around in the tank a bit today. Since she is bouncing back fairly well, I will have to get an exercise area setup for her...to build those poor atrophied leg muscles back up!

I am *supposed* to be getting superworms from my wholesaler, tomorrow, I believe (if he doesn't "stiff" me again this week!)

I also have butterworms, hornworms & banana roaches on the way, so she will get a good varied diet & I think the butterworms, in combination with a pinky or two, will go a long way towards putting some weight back on her.

Thanks for the input, Matt!
