Changing Egg Flats

Dubia Dynasty

Third Instar
About how often do you change your egg flats out? I wouldn't imagine it being very often. Maybe 4-6 months? I have no clue.

I've only ever changed egg flats once. That was with the B. lateralis roaches and the egg flats were over a year old that time. I only change them when they start to fall apart in my hand when I pick them up. The egg flats in my dubia bins seem to last a very long time and I don't see myself changing them anytime soon. If the enclosure is well ventilated they shouldn't decay in 4-6 months.

If there is plenty of ventilation then there is really no need to replace them very often. If you dont add enough ventilation then the egg crates will start to build up water and get drenched... I had to learn that the hard way!

If you have a lot of ventilation in the container you do not need to change them. If it is moist they mold in maybe around a few weeks. I use tree bark that does not get mold for moist containers and the roaches like the bark better than egg crates.
