I know "Blat" is the old word for cockroach, but where did "Cockroach" come from? Why the "cock-" part of it?

 
I was just going to say it comes from the Spanish cucaracha but I found this very detailed account including the first known use of the English word. In short, the 'cock' (for rooster) portion has to do with the sound of the name but not the meaning.
