Deropeltis paulinoi

Maarten..

Third Instar
I've got a new species for some days, D. paulinoi. I've read that they need rotten wood. Do they eat it? They have readily accepted fish flakes up until now. Are there any food items it should certainly give? thx.

I don't think they eat rotten wood even in miniscule amounts but it's good for providing a place for eggs to be laid. They do well on dog food, fish flakes, apple and more.

I have to agree with Orin... I feed mine fish food also...also throw apples, carrots, etc. in there. I have had success with a small amount of bananna baby food... I might try putting some rotten wood logs in the cage for the egg cases to be laid on... the majority of my egg cases have been laid onto the bedding...one was glued to the eggcrate... I think they would REALLY benefit from a rotten wood log to lay there egg cases on...

Good luck...these are one of my favorite species...

Mine drop ootheca anywhere, and will not eat wood at all. However, they will eat some amount of oak leaves in conjuction with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. They avoid parsely and anything it touched. They love oranges. They also eat plenty of fish food.

Thank you for the answers! They've already eaten carrots as well so I think they will be all fine. :P

I've got the rotten wood idea from the site of member lucihormetica. Maybe he/she could give a bit more information?
