Dubai Roaches looking for a home

Itsmoe

Hello, my child came home with two Dubai Roaches she won at school and she is ready to get rid of them as she doesn’t find them “ cute “ anymore.
I’m doing my best to feed them and give them water and keep them alive - but … I just don’t have time. I feel really bad giving them to someone who will use them as “ feeders” so I was wondering if anyone knows someone in the Huntington Beach area, Ca I can donate them to?

Thanks.

This probably isn't what you want to hear but it's the truth. It is a longshot to find someone who will take them as pets. I hope you find someone, I honestly do.

you could send them back to the school, who really shouldn't be sending bugs home with kids without the parents consent. they had to come from a colony somewhere, let the school get them returned to where they came from.

Might as well give this thread some more attention and hopefully someone will adopt the dubia, which is the purpose of this thread.

Have the roaches been adopted yet? Or are they growing on ya @Itsmoe ?

Hello!

Thank you for the attention
On these criters.

They are “ growing on me “
But .. I just can’t have them.
They’re still looking for a home . :-(

It's such a sad situation. I'm really surprised that schools give out a living creature without parental consent - as was mentioned above. They may have the attitude that it's "just a bug" but they still are alive and have needs that must be met. I'm truly sorry that it's become so difficult. A child really does not have the awareness of the fact that accepting a pet is a lifetime commitment. :(

I guess at this point, my only suggestion would be to attempt speaking with either the teacher (or principal?) and seeing if they'd take it back. If that fails, you could try going to a local reptile store.. but that would likely have a high chance they would become feeders. Last resort is euthanasia, in the most humane way you can deal with carrying out. :/

How long have they been in the possession of your kiddo, and do you know how long they had been in the classroom before they came home with them? They live 1-2 years, males having a shorter life span. Do you know if they're fully mature?

Addressing the more important discussion:
Itsmoe, your best bet would be to post to Facebook pages dedicated to invertebrate/reptile rehoming about your situation. California's a very populated state so I'm sure there's a handful of people out there that want some roaches!

That's actually a good idea - I'm in one of the tarantula rehoming groups, I don't know why I never thought about one for either inverts in general or possibly even a roach one would be out there.
