Four spotter beetle

Males are exactly the size of a dime, and females were nearly the size of a nickle.

Turns out this is a variety of tortoise beetle that feeds only on certain species of vine.

My parents have a variety of tortoise beetles in the mountains a few miles from their home. The colors are always amazing with metallic purples, greens, and all others in the rainbow. Sadly, when the specimen dies the color fades to a very dull brown.
