g lurida husbandry advice needed

Second Instar
i bought 20 mixed sized nymphs of these a little over a year ago.
  • they are kept in my roach closet which is usu right around 86F degrees and i would guess around 20-30% humidity.
  • their substrate is a mixture of hard wood leaves, some white rot maple and coir and kept dry.
  • they have a large dish of water crystals.
  • they are fed a dry roach chow mixture (i can post the recipe if it it would help) 3-4 times a month they are fed (usually dehydrated) fruit and veggies.

i have had not very good success with them breeding. i would say there is maybe 50-100 of them in there now. are they typically this slow to breed? any comments/suggestions on how i can improve their husbandry?

"50-100" ?

they have a 1/2 egg carton of water crystals in there and only a couple square inches of ventilation which i figured should give them a decent amount of humidity. do you think thats not enough of not just realize those were water crystals in there.? if so what would you recommend to bring up the humidity? i am thinking by wetting 1/3 or so of the substrate...
by "increase the footprint of the substrate" do you literally mean they need floor space or just need a deeper substrate ?
 
Yeah if you have 50-100 in there already that's as many as an enclosure that size is ever gonna hold. You'll want to give them a bigger, wider enclosure with more substrate/surface area if you want a larger population.

thanks for the clarification i will put them in a bigger tank and see what happens. when i was searching the forums for info about these guys i came across an old thread where you and @pannaking22 https://roachforum.com/threads/gyna-spp-care.6796/post-39336?referrer=49223
we talking about moisture for your colonies. you were going to dry out your culture a bit. wondering how that worked for you and where you landed on what moisture level worked for you.

I have found that this species seems to like a humidity gradient, personally I go for a 50/50 horizontal gradient.
