Hey 👋🏼

alfiebass

First Instar
Tried to get on here last year but never worked odd.
Anyway I'm here now, my roach journey started roughly 3 years ago after falling out of love with tarantulas and what a learning curve it's been.
Firstly finding that the roach hobby as a whole, I'm the uk, is in a bit of a dia place, I have tried to improve that by bringing more of the uncommon or harder to find (in the uk) to the uk.

I'm a hobby breeder and not doing to bad species wise some do well some fail and you try again. Starting from a standing start it was tough to start with but gradually got easier after contacting people with real knowledge to help along the way.

I've found roach people to be a much better bunch to deal with both here in the UK and Europe and father afield into the states and parts of Asia.

So I'm here to continue to journey learning as I go and helping where I can.

Cheers for having me 👍🏻

Welcome! Agreed that roach people seem to be way more laid back and accepting of others than many in the tarantula hobby. Only thing I can figure is that some in the tarantula hobby are trying to be more venomous than their spiders 🤷‍♂️

Welcome! :) Hope you enjoy your time here!

This is so true. I've only found one group that was pretty decent for tarantulas and that's Tarantula Talk on Facebook. But even there it can get pretty toxic at times, especially when it comes to any kind of handling. I still love my T's but unless I find my true dream species I can locally pick up, I think I'm done with getting any more. I'm having a lot more fun with my roaches and isopods. :)

Well if you ever do get any more T's feel free to chat and share with me, I love my T's just not the associated groups because those people are just as bad and judgy as the reptile & amphibian scene 🤦‍♂️😭

I still have some, I currently have 15-20. I got suuuuuuper sick in December and I think some passed. I don't want to entirely dig up their enclosures so I'm watching the 5 I'm not sure of real close - they may be burrowed under and just in premolt. Most of mine are fossorial in nature, lol.

Apologies, I've gone a bit off topic. :3 I should make a thread in the other inverts section hehe

Welcome!! Happy to have more people from other regions of the hobby! I love the roach community so much because of how small it is. Feels more personable; less alienating; easy to be part of the community.

I just started keeping Ts and can say my immediate experience with the online community was both positive and negative at the same time. Needless to say I'm staying away from the online community. Sadly the issue is popularity. The larger the community, the higher chance you'll encounter the worst of the world. You want your interest to be big for obvious reasons but it's a double-edged sword.
