he is a pure G. Portentosa. i know this because the lady i got him from does NOT like hybrids and she says if she ever found hybrids, she would destroy the colony

That's what I thought also but I can trust her with him being a pure classic hisser!

I wonder if his coloration is due to genetics, maybe it's partly due to his diet and environment as a nymph. I'd love to see what his babies look like if you decide to breed him!

He is in the main colony so if I find any with his coloration I will definitely show to guys!

Thats amazing! Can any roach breed with each other or do they have to be somewhat similar? always wanted to breed hybrids but not sure what to do

Only roaches in the same genus can hybridize.

When I had my first hissers 15 years ago there was only one type. Two years ago when I got back into roaches my local pet store gave me the 2 little colonys they had and said one was wide horn. I was like sure guy not realiseing there was actually different speices of hissers. Its a good thing they mature slowly and I was able to seperate them out. I traded off like 500 of them that were possible hybrids to a guy to use for feeders. Its kinda a live and learn thing especially considering there isnt much literature on how to properly identify pure hisser species or many other roaches for that matter.
