The technical term is Milliped. Try searching various taxonomic and scientific papers and books written by all the major diplopod research scientists in the United States over the last hundred years and you'll understand.

I used milliped in honor of the late Dr. Hoffman because when I wrote the small guide for them in 2005 he suggested I use milliped among other improvements. That was the only suggestion I didn't use.
