Odd nest

looks like a wasp nest, was it a clay or mud honey comb looking cluster before you broke it up?

Any particular reason you had to kill three wasps? That nest looks like a mud dauber nest.

 
What shape was the nest? Jug-shaped would be a potter wasp, tubes would indicate mud daubers. Personally, I'd much rather have the spiders in my yard. They are more beneficial to me, my garden and my fruit trees.
