Pill millipedes ...

Question:

I have some Tanzanian pillipedes (Arthrosphaera ?). Recently, they have begun to make some balls of soil that are larger than the usual fecal pellet. Anyone know why? Here is a photo:

Well, I reluctantly opend 5 or 6 VERY carefully. And what did I find? They were balls of....stuff. Not a uniform fiberous "mush" like a splitopen fecal pellet, but more like an obvious conglomeration of habitat particles. A couple even had what looked like shell pieces and other bits in it. I have to wonder if they wad up thier garbage and roll it away. They do burrow and other behaviors like my AGB's, but my AGB's have proto-pede and babies, and these don't. Errg.
