Reclaiming Germans

Sixth Instar
I work endlessly trying to recapture my escaped Germans with a mini-vac. While they are worth it and the suction is effective there are one or two problems. Most of all, it's mostly late at night and I'm sure neighbors are going to be complaining to the landlord about the noise. Plus of coarse I can't get all of them. Anyone know of a device with suction that wouldn't make so much noise as a vacuum cleaner? Preferrably with a wider nose. Also I'm wondering if there's a way to rig up some live bait trap for them without glue. Germans are too fragile to pull out of glue traps. If anyone has any ideas, it's greatly appreciated.

That sounds fun. What happened? I'd probably be more worried about the neighbors finding out about your roach collection in the first place. You could make a trap using a box with a hole cut in it with a little bit of food inside and then check it periodically, but that probably wouldn't catch them all. Maybe something like an open cracker box against the wall.

Lay out the glue traps and write off the causalities as the cost of not getting evicted.

Thanks. Yeah a small box in areas where I normally see them with some sweet scent like they use in traps and check them regularly. While your advice is practical about the traps, I just can't follow it for my convictions. I'm pretty sure I've heard of or seen suction devices that are less noisy, just cant think off hand what they'd be. What happened was I spread a thick layer of vasoline mixed with mineral oil around the tank rim, but they climb over it with ease.

what kind of bin did you use? I would HIGHLY recommend those ziplock (??) bins with the foam gasket seal. they keep everything in, and everything out!

I dont keep anything of mine in them as most of my roaches are tropical and the ones that can possibly infest cannot climb smooth surfaces. But if you want the bins, you can get them at Walmart in the storage containers. or go online and search gasket seal storage container!
