Substrates for Pycnoscelus nigra

Pounces

First Instar
I want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong for my soon to arrive roaches. :)

I keep isopods and tarantulas currently, along with Dubia but I don't use substrate with them since digging out the nymphs is so difficult.

For the Shadow roaches, I was going to use a blend like I do for isopods - topsoil, orchid bark, little bit of dampened sphagnum moss, soaked/expanded wood pellets and worm casing and then a bit of lump charcoal I've crushed up. I'll be adding in roughly half of one of my springtail cultures along with the substrate they are in to kick start it too. I read about coco coir, but don't have it on hand. I can easily run out to the local Petsmart if it's really the best for them though!

Also, I have some Oak bark I collected at my sisters farm that I've put into the freezer - I usually do leaves for 3-5 days in the freezer, this is the first time I've collected bark. Does that go for bark as well, or should it be longer? I do have cork bark and branches I can add if it needs more time.

I think that's all the questions I have right now, but if anyone has any tips I'm very open to hearing them!

*edit* I hope I put this in the right subforum! :)

The shadow roaches should do fine in that substrate. More than fine, they are very hardy.
To be honest that substrate seems to me more expensive than what is necessary but we don't always go for the bare minimum in this hobby. Sometimes we like to spoil our bugs- I get that!
I don't have the experience with freezing to answer that question in particular.
