I've yet to meet a cockroach who could get past a pair of ladies' tights stretched over the lid of the bin (with the legs tied of course), especially if used in conjunction with a barrier like vaseline.

no , the sticky part of the tape is taped on the container boarding the inside .. the top side is very smooth and slick .. problem with Vaseline is , within 2 months it melts off ESP in summer heat of over 80F ...I used Vaseline back in the late 90s with hissers and Giant Cave Roaches. it's just a sticky mess to clean up and reapply and im a semi lazy hobbyst so I want to do things very practical and easy.
You're right about vasoline. My Germans climb over my layer of vasoline mixed with mineral oil all the time. You think your packing tape would work if I put it over the old vasoline layer? I've spread the vasoline so wide over the tank wall, I'm not sure if I could avoid it.

That tape you talk (if it´s Teflon) is very weak and it doesn´t has a gluing side.

There is Teflon tape that has a gluing side and it´s not necesseraly white (it can be grey, black, whatever).
Right. I've tried the white teflon and it doesn't work for my German any better than the vasoline/mineral oil layer. I think I've seen a picture of the better teflon you're talking about. It's brown and about 2/3 times wider than the white. Even by appearence it looks more durable.

As far as roach colony barriers go, you want something that not only keeps your roach colonies in and prevents them from escaping, you also want to repel or prevent invasive insects eg: spiders & mites from entering.

I have had great success carrying a product that Works as a Super Slick Roach & Insect Boundary & Barrier it Works by keeping desired insects in and undesirable ones out. It Works better than too frequent messy re-applications of vaseline and may be used as a first line defense against escapes or invasions into your roach colonies as well as increasing the effectiveness of an already established barrier..

The product works like it should is safe, does not melt run or drip like vaseline and can stand up to high heat. It need not be reapplied (unless it gets overly soiled in that case a re-application may be needed)

I have a question about scented petroleum jelly...

I got 9 free containers (3.53oz each) because the lids were damaged. These are "BabyLove" 100% paraben free Petroleum Jelly, skin moisturizer & protectant BABY SOFT SCENT.

I would LOVE to use this in my roach enclosures, but am concerned that the "fragrance" chemicals might be bad for the bugs. The label claims it is 99.9% White Petroleum.

Thanks all.

I would never buy this, but I got it for free (can't beat that!) so... I'm looking for feedback... the odor is noticeable (smells like baby powder)... to use, or not to use... maybe test it on an enclosure of australians or lobsters for a few months and see if it hurts them?
