Wanted: Male Hissers!

Crazy Bug Lady

Third Instar
Hello,

I know this may be a strange request, by I'm looking to buy male hissers.  The reason I want males is because I don't want to breed right now.  And because males hiss more.  In particular, I am interested in vibrant hissers, tiger hissers and wide horned hissers.  If anyone has any roaches they would be willing to sell *not trade) I would be very happy.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, I forgot about those!  I would be interested in them.  They are about the same size as other hissers, right?

Also, for anybody who might have anything, go ahead and email me.  My email is:

No, the Halloweens are dwarfs, quite a bit smaller than your average Gromphadorhina hissers, and they hiss way more in my experience!

Well, male Halloweens can get up to 56 mm long as adults, whereas Wide-horn males have the potential to reach 80 mm, (though most will be smaller than that). They also have less mass than other hissers, so they can seem smaller than other hisser species even if they were the same length.

When I only kept male hissers as pets I had a male Halloween housed with a male Tiger hisser, and the size difference was quite noticeable! FYI, the E.javanica are like the chihuahuas of the hissers, small yet much noisier and more feisty!

Ok, I'm not very goood with metric, but that sounds bigger than a wide horned hisser nymph.  That's good.  Also, someone recomended this breed on another topic, so that makes me want them more!  Still interested in the others I mentioned though.  From what you said it's ok to house the little guys with the bigger ones!

Also, the reason I'm asking for email or replies on the forum is because the pm system doesn't appear to be accessible.  Meaning I probably won't see it if you send me a pm!

Well it all depends on the size of the nymphs lol, a large widehorn nymph could be bigger than an adult halloween hisser, and an adult halloween hisser could be bigger than a small widehorn nymph. :P  Oh yeah, the halloweens can fend for themselves just fine when housed with larger species, that's for sure!

Being that they are small, fierce little guys, it might be alright to have a couple of them as they wouldn't take up too much space.  I'm keeping my nymp, my adult g,portentosa and my millipede in a medium critter keeper, and there is pleanty of room.  WOuld I need to worry about the halloween hisser slipping through the ventalation slits?  My nymph can't, so I hope that means they couldn't either?

If they are large nymphs or adults then no, they shouldn't be able to escape, I kept my adult in a critter keeper type enclosure as well. :)

The 2 boys are big enough not to get through.   I kept the smallest boy cause he was cute....
They are doing great!

Also, I'm still looking for a vibrant hisser male or male femail pair.  And I'm also looking for a female wide horned hisser now to keep my tiger hisser girl company.

I have hybrid XL G. oblongonota. I don't have any full grown adults to spare at the moment, but I have large nymphs that are about the size of G. portentosa. They should reach their full size in another 3-4 months max.

They are hybrids, though, so I don't recommend breeding them. They have some portentosa in their lineage — as nymphs they have more yellow than normal oblongonotas and adults have the occasional yellow fringe. If you're just looking for huge hissers, these will do the trick! My adults are all 3 inches long or more. The males are very feisty and hiss incredibly loud, even as large nymphs.

If you're interested, send me a pm.

Hi,

I can't seem to get the pm system on here to behave with my adaptive tech.  I am interested, especially because I keep my males and females separate and intend no breeding.  If I ever do breed, I wouldn't breed the hybrid..  Can you tell males from females of your nymphs?  I'm checking out a couple other things, but I am interested in any roach that is big and likes to hiss loudly!  I'd probably purchase a male though for that.  Or perhaps one male and a female to keep my tiger female company.  I know I'm silly for wanting her to have a companion, but roaches are social bugs and I just think it would be better for her.

No worries on the pm. The large G. oblongonota nymphs are all at least 2 inches, so the males and females are very distinct already. If you're interested, I could pick out some particularly "vocal" individuals. Let me know if you need pricing.

Hello,

I would like pricing, please.  And, I would like to use paypal if at all possible.  I know this may seem like a stupid question, but would it be easy for a person who doesn't know roaches to tell your nymphs from either a g,portentosa or g,oblongonota?  I'm asking because if I ever do decide to breed, I will probably be asking someone to confirm breed before I pair my roaches up.  I can usually tell members of my colony apart (it helps that there are only six roaches total), but the more members I have the more chances there are for me to mess up.  I'm not breeding now, and won't be for the forseeable future, I just want to be careful.  I would love for you to pick out particularly loud individuals!I'm also looking into JP's roaches and believe me, it's a difficult choice!  I kind of want them all!

It would be very difficult for a layperson to differentiate between G. portentosa and my G. oblongonota hybrids. The nymphs look almost identical when small. Once the G. oblongonota reach full size (or near full size) they will be much larger than G. portentosa and start to darken to a deep brick red, while the G. portentosa will remain smaller and brighter with more of the yellow-tan-golden brown color.

I would not recommend breeding my G. oblongonota with any other hissers, including other oblongonotas. As hybrids, they're really only suited to be pets or feeders. As such, I typically sell the male medium-large nymphs (about 2" long or more) for $5 each. A female of the same size would also be $5, though again, I do caution about breeding these guys. There are so many hybrids in the hobby. This lineage should be left to die out. That being said, the adult males are so large and loud. They make pretty awesome pets.

I charge $8 shipping for Priority Mail. I can do overnight as well.

Do you still have the hybrids?

Or does anyone else have one or two hisser males.  I have five males, but to of them are tiny, being halloween hissers.  I would like one more big male for the male colony.  I would prefer a male that likes to hiss a lot!
