Water?

Andee

Second Instar
With all my other roaches, I just give them fruits like oranges and they get enough water from it. But with hissers (which I have just gotten three of) I am unsure as a lot of sources say to give them a small water bowl? Do I need to give them extra water, like water crystals or something?

I just keep the substrate moist on one end of the enclosure. They drink from the substrate. They do fine and reproduce well.

I've actually kept hissers alive for a couple of years without providing any water. A sliced piece of 2" melon was suffice for me to keep them hydrated for a week. Then again, we have a humid climate so moisture isn't a big issue.

Ok I will add a weekly misting to the fruit intake just in case. Just to be on the safe side. Thanks guys ^^

Another good idea is Fluker's Cricket Quencher Water Gel. It comes in both blue and orange form. I give my German a few cubes a day on two plates to make sure roaches living on both ends of the tank smell the water. When the gel turns faded blue or dark orange, it means the water in it is all gone. I personally believe it's an easier way to insure they have a water source than misting the tank. Though fruit is essential for nutrients.
