I just learned that aspen is a hardwood, which is good because I've got it growing around me. Are aspen leaves safe to use for roaches? Is there anything I should be wary of? Thanks!

I believe aspen leaves and aspen wood are good for millipedes and beetles that require rotten wood and leaf litter, so it should be fine for your roaches!

Aspen is one of the safest, least toxic woods around! That's why people recommend using aspen shavings instead of pine for sensitive animals that need a loose substrate. It can even be used in aquatic setups.

My roaches eat the aspen as much as the oak, and I have some species in finely shaved aspen bedding with no issues.
